The tech behind it
Three of the services behind the map I run myself: map tiles, terrain heights and land use come from my own servers – not from an outside provider who can turn off the tap tomorrow. That happened twice in September.
The map server sits with a European provider, and its access log does not record your IP address. No cookies, no usage profiles.
It does not work entirely without others: satellite imagery, geozones, airspace and weather still come from authorities and specialist providers. Which service is answering right now is always visible in the service status – checked every 30 minutes, no account needed.
